A brow lift has a major effect on the rejuvenation of the upper third of the face.It restores a more youthful, refreshed look to your brow and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that make you appear sad, tired or angry.

Dr Larocque will design your brow by raising or reshaping based on your facial analysis. It is important to avoid the unnatural, surprised look.

Brow lift can be done alone or in combination with other procedures like eyelid surgery or facelift.

If you are considering brow rejuvenation, the information provided will give you a basic understanding of the procedure but it won’t answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for the surgery?

The best candidates for brow rejuvenation are men and women who are looking for an improvement in their appearance and have realistic expectations. A brow lift will give you a younger, fresher look and may enhance your self-esteem but it won’t give you a totally different look. It is usually performed between 40 and 60 years old but sometimes younger if it is a familial characteristic. In many people, low eyebrows will be associated with frontal muscles hyperactivity resulting in deep skin furrows that will be greatly improved by the surgery.

What should I expect from my consultation?

During your consultation, you will learn about the surgery, its limitations and risks, and discuss your specific needs and concerns. This will help Dr Larocque to understand your expectations and determine whether they realistically can be achieved. He will examine your forehead, eyebrow, eyelids and your face to be able to design a harmonious surgical plan for a natural result. Your medical history will be reviewed to make sure the surgery can be done safely. Finally, you will meet with the patient coordinator to discuss surgery fees and scheduling dates.

How is the surgery performed?

Brow rejuvenation can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia. The procedure last about one to two hours.

There are two different approaches for brow lift: the endoscopic approach and the coronal approach.

In the endoscopic approach, Dr Larocque does six small vertical incisions in the scalp and introduces an endoscope; a long, thin tube with a light on the end, attached to a video camera. It allows Dr Larocque to see and work on the various internal structures of the forehead.

The advantage of that approach is that it requires minimal incisions.

In the coronal “open” approach, an incision is made across the top of the scalp from one ear to the other. Sometimes, the incision is made at the hairline to decrease the height of the forehead.

The approach is chosen based on individual characteristics to obtain the best natural result.

How is the recovery like?

You will be able to go home after your surgery. You will have a bandage around your head for a few days. Swelling can affect the eyes and cheek and will progressively disappear in a week or two. You may experience some numbness in some areas of the forehead or the scalp that may last for a few months. With the endoscopic approach, these inconveniences are less frequent.

What should I know about my results?

During a few weeks after the surgery, the correction may appear a little bit overdone because of the swelling. But you will see very soon the result of the surgery with a younger and more rested look that will last for many years.
